The story behind this piece
Country in Motion began as a series of dawn walks along the Goulburn River — the same stretch the artist's grandmother walked as a girl. The flowing lines on the canvas trace the seasonal movement of the water, the way the river writes itself differently every year while remaining, in essence, itself.
Ground layers were built in ochres collected on Country. The line work was laid in a single sitting at first light, when the river surface moves fastest. No corrections — the wanderings stay in.
